INTRODUCTION: Although previous studies have suggested that soft tissue abscesses do not require treatment with antibiotics, the current standard of care is to prescribe them. The purpose of this trial was to examine the need for antibiotic therapy after incision and drainage of skin and soft tissue infections in a population with a high prevalence of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
