Mechanisms for Generating Straight Lines and Arcs

We analyze the Reuleaux mechanism that draws straight segments. There are relationships, diagrams, and positions of the mechanism which show that a point on a rod draws a straight line parallel to the ordinate of the axis system. A new mechanism whose point on the rod draws an arc is presented. There are also presented relationships, successive positions, and the resulting trajectory, including the arc. The velocities and accelerations are calculated, and their values are given in tables and diagrams.
