The status of the bat-winged fly, Exsul singularis Hutton (Diptera: Muscidae: Coenosiinae)

Recent observations of the bat-winged fly (Exsul singularis Hutton) together with a collation of data from the 65 specimens held in major New Zealand collections are presented. The species has been found from the Paparoa Range south to northern Fiordland. Based on these records the conservation status is reviewed and it is removed from its current category as of indeterminate threatened status.
