Since the earliest days of empirical research on human sexuality, (19, 7, 22) it has been frequently and strongly suggested that psychological and sociological processes tend to inhibit or to facilitate sexual functioning at all ages, including old age. Inspite of that, sexuality has been treated mostly as a discrete topic, unrelated to other psychological and social processes.
