Determination of content of methyl tert-butyl ether in automotive gasolines

1984
The authors propose a method for routine control of the methyl-tert butyl ether (MTBE) content in automotive gasoline, which method is based on the change in selective absorption of infrared radiation by the MTBE in the region of stretching vibrations of the C-O-C bond. Charts present infrared absorption spectra for A-76 gasoline, A-72 gasoline, and a solution of MTBE in A-76 gasoline. Another chart presents a calibration line for determining MTBE content in automotive gasoline. The authors conclude that the results of metrological certification indicate a high level of precision in their method.
