Late Surgical Treatment for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Prosthesis Dysfunction

2020
Abstract Structural valve degeneration (SVD), valve thrombosis (VT), or acute infective endocarditis (IE) may affect post-procedural outcome of transcatheter aortic valve implanted (TAVI) prostheses. Data of patients who had late surgical explant of TAVI prostheses were obtained from eight European centers. Thirteen patients underwent surgical treatment for TAVI prosthesis failure after original admission due to prosthetic IE in six cases, SVD in four cases, and VT in three patients. Hospital mortality was 15%, and survival at 2-year follow up was 71%.
