Background Laparoscopic surgery has been widely accepted for the treatment of colorectal cancer; however, long-term outcomes in elderly patients remain controversial. The midterm results of a randomized trial comparing open surgery with laparoscopic surgery in elderly patients with colorectal cancer are presented.
