Hyper-response to exogenous insulin in diabetic rats after islet allotransplantation, without reversion of diabetes

1997
Abstract DIFFERENT publications about islet transplantation in rats, monkeys or humans 1,2,3 do not address the presence of hypoglycemia. Otherwise, our previous experiences have shown an increased response to exogenous insulin after islet allotransplantation (IAT) in rats; this appears in the first week and minimizes or disappears after 1 month. 4,5 The reversion of diabetes is not always achieved by islet allotransplantation, so we wanted to know if persistent diabetic rats after islet allotransplantation have a similar behaviour to euglucemic rats. To rule out the possible influence of cyclosporine A (CyA), we made also tested nontransplanted rats having received the same doses of CyA as transplanted ones.
