To investigate the effects of calcium, magnesium and zinc supplementation with and without added bioperine on the absorption characteristics of these selected minerals in a group of healthy males and females. Structured Abstract⎯ Study Question: Does a commercially available dietary supplement containing bioperine have any additional absorption benefit over a mineral supplement without bioperine? Study Design Study Site: Princess Alexandra Hospital. Clinical Trial Type: Comparative non–blinded study. Allocation: Not concealed. Blinding: None. Participant Recruitment: Brisbane metropolitan area. Study Particulars Setting: Brisbane Metropolitan Area. Participants: A total of 90 participants [31 males, 59 females], gave written consent to participate in the mineral absorption study and were within the age range from 18–61 years. Participants were recruited into the study from the Brisbane metropolitan area. Intervention: Participants were allocated to either the administered mineral supplement with bioperine [Calcium ± bioperine 1000 mg/day; Magnesium ± bioperine 300 mg/day; Zinc ± bioperine 25 mg/day] or test mineral supplements without bioperine. All samples were provided by Swisse Vitamins Pty Ltd.
