Design Procedure for Rockfill Structures

1995
Research concerning the flow of clean water through rock barriers was used to develop three methods for rockfill dam design. The standard deviation of the rockfill diameter was used to represent particle size gradation. It was assumed that the rockfill would be quarry-type rock and, hence, reasonably uniform in size. The range of Reynolds numbers for the limited research data was 100 < Re < 2000 and the average rockfill diameter ranged from 15.9 to 31.8 mm (5/8 to 1 1/4 in.).
