The shift lever operating position judging means

A method of operating the shift lever position determining means, comprising a position sensor having a switch. Each switch is provided to various regions within the region where the shift lever is in the ON state, and the shift lever operating position corresponding to each of the two or three switches of different combinations of switches in the ON state. The apparatus further comprises reading a sensor signal indicative of the ON or OFF state of the switch based on the signal and calculating a calculation value calculating means calculates a value, and according to a first operating position judgment reference, judges based on the calculated value of the shift lever a first operating position judging means at the position, the first operating position judgment reference defines the calculated value in the case where the all the switches are in the normal state.
