Synthesis and NMR analysis of isotopically enriched methanol

Four isotopomers of methanol were prepared enriched with 13C, 12C, and deuterium, including [13C, 2H4]methanol, [13C]methanol, [12C, 2H4]methanol and [12C]methanol. These compounds were analysed by proton NMR and by deuterium and 13C NMR, both proton coupled and decoupled. The spectra are useful for calculating the isotopomer distribution and for determining the percentage enrichment in the labeled positions, for which each spectrum provides unique information. A variety of coupling constants and isotope shifts are also reported.
