A STUDY ON THE BEHAVIOR OF AIRBLASTED PLANAR LIQUID SHEETS

2014
Behavior of planer liquid sheets sandwiched with co-flowing air jets have been studied by several researchers to understand the mechanism of breakup of liquid films in air streams. In modern high-pressure ratio aero engine combustors,air-blast fuel nozzles become to be used for the reduction of emissions of NO,CO,HJC and smoke. In this type of nozzles, the annular liquid sheet of kerosene is sandwiched by annular swirling air jets prepared by swirl vanes with an angle in the rage of 45-60 degrees. In our order to clarify the basic behavior of the liquid in airblast fuel nozzles,a specially designed planer air-blast nozzle was used for the present study. The planer fuel sheet was injected between the cross flowing planer air jets, one was 45 degrees and the other was minus 45 degrees. The behavior was also investigated under parallel flow conditions. The behaviors of liquid sheets over a wide range of air-liquid momentum ratios and Reynolds numbers of liquid jets was photographed by a high-speed cam recorder.
