Life Cycle Cost based selection of materials for wastewater networks

2008
The city of Oslo is rethinking its strategies for selection of materials to the wastewater networks, in particular pipes and manholes. The new strategy is valid for as well new constructions as renovation projects. The overall aim is to safeguard a system that over its entire life period maintains its flood capacity without limitations due to constructing failures or failures influencing the flow capacity. As Oslo wants to appear as an environmental friendly city, the vulnerability of local flooding as well as pollution of local water courses due to network failures are considered, and also resources spent to produce the pipes, transport them, construct them and maintain the pipelines. The selection obviously also depends on the availability of pipe materials as well as their mechanic and degradation properties.
