On Securing Healthcare with Software-Defined Networks

2019
The Internet of Things can offer great advantages to healthcare. For instance, rapid data collection and action not only make it possible to respond rapidly to crisis, but also improve patient quality of life (for example, a diabetes patient with a smart insulin pump need not worry about being home for doses). Yet, IoT also introduces system and network security issues. In this paper, we explore the question of IoT security in healthcare. We begin by surveying the IoT attack surface and its implications for Healthcare, and discussing existing solutions and their shortcomings. Finally, we propose that a centralized solution, based on software defined networks, could alleviate some of these concerns.
