Diffuse Thyroid Disease (DTD) and Thyroiditis
2018
High-resolution conventional B mode ultrasonography is the most sensitive method to characterize and diagnose diffuse thyroid disease. The sonographic characteristics including conventional B mode imaging, color Doppler imaging, and elastography of diffuse thyroid disease including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Graves’ disease, subacute thyroiditis, lymphoma, acute simple goiter, and adenomatous goiter are discussed. The variable presentation of these conditions is illustrated with sonographic examples of each condition and caveats to avoid misdiagnosis of nodules, cancers, and pseudonodules in diffuse thyroid disease goiters.
