SELECTION OF PARAMETERS FOR HEATING A FREE EDGE IN WELDING T-BEAMS

1976
It is shown that, in welding T-beams (as e.g. in shipbuilding) by means of double-sided angular welds, the need for curvature straightening depends, other conditions being equal (section size, welding conditions), substantially on the beam length. To compensate welding deformation in the web plane, additional heating of the free edge may be employed. By selecting an appropriate width of the heating zone along the free edge of the steel beam web, and with a minimum consumption of additional power, it is possible to achieve a maximum temperature in the compensating heating zone that is not higher than 400 degree C.
