TIPIFICACIÓN DE GRUPOS SANGUÍNEOS ABO Y RH EN LA COMUNIDAD DE SHEREPTA EN LA SIERRA DE PERIJÁ. ESTADO ZULIA Determination of Blood Groups (ABO and Rh) in the Sherepta Community, Sierra de Perijá, State of Zulia

2014
Blood groups are the diverse types of classification made for human blood based on antigenic components in the red blood cell membrane. The most important at the clinical level are the ABO and Rh systems. The objective was to determine ABO blood groups and Rh in 173 blood samples from adults and children between 1 and 78 years of age from the Sherepta community, belonging to the Yukpa ethnic group from Perija, State of Zulia. Using descriptive methodology, a frequency of blood groups and Rh were obtained as follows: 94% O Rh (+) and 6% B Rh (+). The most frequent blood group and Rh factor in the Yukpa population was O Rh (+), uncovering a change in the traditional community blood group pattern due to the appearance of a new B Rh group (+), which could have occurred due to mixing of the indigenous with people who do not belong to the Yukpa ethnic group.
