Serum Iron and Iron Binding Capacity in the Arabian Camel (Camelus dromedarius)

1997
Abstract Hussein, M.F., Al-Mufarrej, S.I., Mogawer, H.H., Gar El Nabi, A.R. and Sanad, H.H. 1997. Serum iron, and iron binding capacity in the Arabian camel (Camelus dromedarius). J. Appl. Anim. Res., 11: 201–205. Serum iron concentration and iron binding capacity were determined in 47 healthy adult camels and 20 camel calves of either sex. The total iron binding capacity was similar in male and female camels; however, a significant sex effect was observed in serum iron, unbound iron binding capacity and saturation concentration percentage. Age effect was significant for total and unbound iron binding capacities and the highest values were recorded in adult male camels.
