Alanine Response to Proton Beams in the 1.6-6.1 MeV Energy Range

Alanine response to low-energy protons was studied with alanine dosemeters of 2 mm thickness, irradiated with proton beams of energy in the 1.6-6.1 MeV range. The detector's range-averaged relative effectiveness to 60 Co radiation ranged from 0.61 to 0.65. For fluence values up to 5 X 10 10 protons.cm -2 , the alanine response was linear.
