Semi-analytical and experimental investigation of the whipping response of a cylinder subjected to underwater explosion load

2018
ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to investigate the whipping response of a cylinder subjected to underwater explosion. A semi-analytical method contains shock wave and bubble pulsation load was established. Empirical formula of shock wave and G&H model was used to simulate the underwater explosion loading while hydrodynamic force was predicted by Taylor plate theory and Morison equation. Newmark method with solution at each time step incorporated by an iterative Newton–Raphson method was used to solve the equations of motion. After that, the semi-analytical method was validated against the 3D FEM model and the experiment data. The results agreed well with 3D FEM analysis and experiment. Finally, a parametric study was carried out. The results suggested that the whipping response had a great relationship with the charge of weight and depth. When the bubble pulsation frequency and the first-order vertical vibration natural frequency matched well, resonance phenomenon was produced and resulting in large...
