ARMERIA CASTROVALNERANA SP. NOV., UN NUEVO TAXON DE ARMERIA GR. ALPINA EN EL MACIZO DEL CASTRO VALNERA (CORDILLERA CANTÁBRICA, BURGOS)

Armeria castrovalnerara sp. nov., a new taxon from Castro Valnera (Cantabrian Mountains, Burgos, N Spain). A new species of the genus Armeria (Plumbagianceae) collected within the mountain range of Castro Valnera (eastern end of the Cantabrian Mountains) is described. An only one population with no more than 190 individuals, in extreme geographical and ecological isolation condi- tions, has been detected. The genus characteristic reticulate evolution that often pro- duces microspecies of very reduced area, advises to take protective measures to ensure their survival.
