The invention relates to a distribution system for electrical energy with a current transmission path (6) and electrical installations arranged spaced physically apart from one another. In order to configure such a system in such a way that said system enables long-range distribution inexpensively, at least one electrical energy consumer and/or electrical energy producer is connected to the current transmission path (6) via a modular multi-level converter arrangement (9) in such a way that the at least one electrical consumer or electrical energy producer is connected to the capacitor (20) of at least one submodule (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15) of the modular multi-level converter arrangement (9) via in each case one inverter (27) with a downstream transformer (29).
