APPLICABILITY OF NATURAL POLYMER AND NATURAL PERMEATION ENHANCER IN TRANSDERMAL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM: A DETAILED REVIEW

2021
Active ingredient and excipients are two main element of any pharmaceutical dosage form. To make any pharmaceutical dosage form, excipients help to get better physicochemical parameters of the dosage form. Polymers play a significant function in any dosage form as excipients. In recent days many problems correlated with synthetic polymer, interest concerning natural polymer increases. In food and cosmetic industry approach of natural polymer have large scope than synthetic polymer. Natural polymers are fundamentally polysaccharides, they are biocompatible and have no side effects. Natural polymers are appealing because they are readily available, commercially available, and capable of a wide range of chemical alterations. They are also possibly degradable and compatible due to their origin. The major problem in transdermal drug delivery is the penetration of the drug through stratum corneum and it can be overcome by permeation enhancing techniques. Intercellular, intracellular and trans-appendageal are the routes by which the drug is permeated. The present review describes the natural permeation enhancers can be employed for transdermal permeation of drugs and natural polymer used in transdermal drug delivery system.
