Recent Material Advancement for Marine Application

2019
Abstract Marine transportation is in demand for the decades and will continue to rely on it. The need and development of materials for marine application is highly demanding over the years. Materials for marine application must possess high specific strength and corrosion resistance. Metallic, polymeric and ceramic materials find use for this purpose, and have its own advantages and disadvantages. Nowadays, the use of composite materials for construction of a marine application is highly doable. Fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) have a wide range of usages in marine construction because of its good durability, workability and cost. Many marine works are made by glass fibres and polyester matrix. But glass fibres are non-biodegradable, and toxic for aquatic life. To avoid such risks they have found an alternate form for glass fibre i.e. “fishnet”, as they are made up of nylon fibres. Simulations are also done for the evaluation of composite T-joints.
