The Urologic Management of Huntington Chorea

2020
This chapter examines the urologic management of patients with Huntington disease. Huntington disease can have multiple effects on the bladder, which can significantly impact an affected individual’s quality of life (QoL). As the disease progresses, a patient may experience a wide range of lower urinary tract symptoms including urgency, incontinence, or even development of neurogenic bladder. Interventions might include conservative management, medication, or surgery. The choice of certain intervention may also be impacted by other non-urologic symptoms associated with Huntington disease. The role of the urologist is essential, and this chapter explores the appropriate timeframe to initiate urologic care depending on the patient’s symptoms and the stage of disease.
