Knowledge and Practices Regarding Preventive Oral Health Care Among Undergraduate Students of Lahore, Pakistan

ABSTRACT Objective: Assessment of Preventive dental care practice and knowledge among the undergraduate students of difference universities of Lahore, Pakistan. Study Design: The study was carried out from January to May 2018 at the King Edward Medical College, Lahore. Materials and Methods: The self-administered questionnaire was used for conducting the current survey for assessing the hygiene knowledge and practice and oral health of 300 students from different cadres such as ACCA, BBA, BA, BS, B.com. Data analysis was performed with descriptive statistics and SPSS version 21 was used for chi-square test. Level of significance was set as P< 0.05. Results: It has been revealed by the survey that 52.3% students consider using tooth brush with toothpaste as oral hygiene aid. Every morning around 38.4% students clean their teeth once. 56.2% students have knowledge about the fluoride role in caries prevention. 20% students regularly i.e., after every three months change the toothbrush. Conclusion: The conclusion can be drawn that majority of the students are using tooth brush with tooth paste without having the awareness of interdental cleaning aid. The interdental cleaning is quite below as compared to the level expected therefore to diminish the burden of dental diseases there is need to initiate programs in educational institution relating to awareness.
