Soroprevalência para anticorpos anti-Toxoplasma gondii (Nicolle & Manceaux, 1909) em ovinos pertencentes à microrregião de Umuarama, estado do Paraná, Brasil

2017
With the objective to evaluate the seroprevalence of antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii of the ovine flock from the microregion of Umuarama, in the state of Parana, 194 blood samples were collected in four properties and evaluated by the Immunofluorescence Antibody Test (IFAT). Of the total samples, 28.3 % (55 animals) were positive. Among the properties, the values ranged from 3.5 % to 58.2 %, which may indicate variability in the management of animals among these properties, which consequently may increase or decrease the risk of the infection. Considering the studies conducted in other regions of Parana, or even in other states, the seroprevalence of 28.3% found in this study can be considered moderate. However, considering each property isolated, it can be inferred that the meat of certain properties can be a major source of infection for humans toxoplasmosis, since the prevalence of 58.2% was observed in one sheep farm. Future studies should be conducted in order to correlate the prevalence of most sheep flocks in this region with the possible risk factors for this important zoonosis.
