Adaptability of AlTiN-based coated tools with green cutting technologies in sustainable machining of 316L stainless steel

2020
Abstract This study aimed to explore the adaptability of coated tools with green cutting technologies. The cutting performance of five AlTiN-based coated tools, including tool life, wear model, and penetration mechanisms, were studied under six cooling methods in sustainable machining of 316L stainless steel. The results showed that the optimal cooling method for the coated tools was determined by the combined effect of coating properties and corresponding wear morphology of the crater, which exerted a positive effect on the tool life. Through a comprehensive assessment of sustainable manufacturing capacity, ATN coated showed satisfactory behavior under oils on water condition.
