Study of Turbulent Mixing Development at the Gas‐Gas Interface of Shock Wave at Mach Numbers from 2–9

2006
The experimental technique and the results of the study into the turbulent mixing are presented. The turbulent mixing (TM) arises at Richtmyer‐Meshkov instability at the gas‐gas interface accelerated by a shock wave with Mach numbers up to 9. Helium (He) or air (Air) has been used as light gas, as heavy gas — six‐fluorine sulfur (SF6). In all the experiments a shock wave has propagated from light gas to heavy gas. Mach number of a shock wave in SF6 has changed from 2 to 9. As a consequence the mixing zone width to be observed optically increases with increase in Mach number.
