Energy correlation in e{sup +}e{sup -} {r_arrow} {tau}{sup +}{tau}{sup -} {r_arrow} ({pi}{nu})({pi}{nu})
1993
If the tau neutrino is single-handed, the energies of the pions from the process e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} {r_arrow} {tau}{sup +}{tau}{sup {minus}} {r_arrow} ({pi}{nu})({pi}{nu}) will be maximally correlated. Using 1.3 pb{sup {minus}1} of data collected with the CLEO-II detector operating at CESR ({radical}s {approx_equal} 10.6 GeV), the authors have a large data sample. Their major background is from other tau processes. They let the coupling constants of the tau background vary during the fit. In addition, the authors have a small background from two-photon processes and mu-pairs. From data, they determine pion identification efficiency and the rate at which hadronic splinters mimic photons.
