Rigor científico en películas recientes de catástrofes.
2020
Previous studies show that watching a film clip increases the retention of information,
although its lack of scientific rigor must be evaluated, avoiding the integration of errors in
the student's knowledge base. Films of the last eight years show successful reconstructions
of tsunamis but include errors on areas of Plate Tectonics boundaries and the
reconstruction of geological process. For this work, didactic cards with film scenes of short
duration (less than one and a half minutes) from three films: The wave (2015), 100 Degrees
Below Zero (2013) and San Andreas (2015) were prepared. All of them are articulated
through the common geology competitions from the Geology of Secondary Education and
High School, such as plate tectonics and minerals and rocks, as well as related to other
contents of the curriculum in secondary levels. The objective of the work was to make of
each one of the selected movie clips, (i) a adequate scientific analysis for teacher training,
and (ii) a worksheet for student learning, with suitable activities for each of the four levels
where the geology is subject of study in secondary school.
