Particle production from copper and uranium targets by 8 GeV/c protons

1968
A detailed study has been made of the production of K− and π− mesons at 690, 745 and 935 MeV/c by 8 GeV/c protons incident on copper and uranium targets. Yields are reported as a function of target length over the range of production angles 0o to 15o. The maximum yield for thick targets occurs at about 7o, and it is shown that this may be understood in terms of re-absorption of secondaries within the target. The ratios K±/π±, p/π+,\(\bar p/\pi ^ - \) have also been measured within the momentum range 600 to 2600 MeV/c. *** DIRECT SUPPORT *** A09E0055 00007
