Absence of quasifission in {sup 16}O + {sup 194}Pt reaction

2008
The quasifission process, in which the system reseparates before reaching a compact shape, is a major hurdle in forming superheavy nuclei by heavy ion fusion. Other experimental signatures of this process include observation of broadened mass distribution and a strong correlation of fragment mass with emission angle. The mass distribution measurements for {sup 16}O + {sup 194}Pt reaction has been reported.
