Road Safety in Norwegian Urban Areas: Accident analysis and assessment of countermeasures, Summary

2012
This synopsis summarizes a longer report focused on "vision zero" accidents in urban areas. Vision zero is the idea that road traffic should not lead to accidents that cause death or permanent injury. Fatal accidents that occurred in urban areas during 2005-2009 were analyzed to assess possible countermeasures. The researchers found that the majority of these accidents involved pedestrians or bicyclists. The most frequent accidents occurred during street crossings. Countermeasures currently being used in other countries are explored and suggestions are given for further exploration.
