Comparative Analysis of Geometry of Receiver Placement in Multistatic Radar Configuration

2020
Multistatic radar has gained recent research interest due to its significant advantages over monostatic radars such as; increased coverage, covert operation advantage and use of low cost receivers. The geometry of placement of receivers and number of receivers used in multistatic radar configuration has a great impact on its error performance. In this paper, we have considered hyperbolic multilateration for target localization in space. The impact of receiver placement on localization performance in constrained geometric configuration is analyzed. Three different receiver placement are compared considering different placement rules. The performance is measured in terms of localization error estimate for different number of receivers and different target positions. Minimum number of receivers required for a specified localization error are estimated using simulations. The performance is also compared with Uniform Angular Array (UAA) which is an optimum configuration.
