Automated dialogue generation

Under the supervision of Michael Mateas, I am currently pursuing research in dialogue generation -- that is, a computer creating believable, interesting conversation. While most current natural language generation systems are focused on syntax (the rules of how to combine words into phrases and sentences), we are interested in the problem of combining sentences to form coherent conversations. We believe that automatically generating dialogue will make creating conversation easier as it will decrease the amount of writing necessary, while expanding the number of potential dialogues.
