Research Progress on Myostatin Gene in Bovine

Myostatin is a member of the transforming growth factor beta superfamily,which is a negative regulator factor of skeletal muscle growth.Inhibition or loss of biological activity of myostatin gene would result in the proliferation of skeletal muscle,thereby cause the excessive development of animal muscle,showing double muscling traits.This article reviews the discovery of MSTN gene,structural features,mechanism,the research progress and prospects in bovine species.
