Studies of energy transfer of porphyrins in microheterogeneous systems

1994
Abstract Films of block copolymers, such as poly(vinyl-2-pyridine)-block-polystyrene were prepared and studied. The study of the fluorescence of zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP) in the presence of these block copolymers is the subject of this work. We have been able to show that, in these media, monomeric ZnTPP is selectively dissolved in the pyridine phase of the copolymer. The grafting of ZnTPP on polystyrene results in a preferential solubilization of the dye in the polystyrene phase. The diffusion of excitation in these media and the nature and efficiency of the traps in which the energy of the light is retained have been determined. This type of material permits a compartmentalization of one electron donor and one electron acceptor in both phases. This can serve as a potential model of photoactivated charge-transfer reactions.
