The Effectiveness of Granulated Blastfurnace Slag

Abstract Effectivc utilizatioii o f Blastfurnace Siag is very important for the steel indusry. In Japan almost one hundred percent of Blastfurnace Slag is ulilized. Above all, its use as cementitious materials is most valuable and environmentally advantageous. This report presents the history of Blastfurnace, Slag utilization in Japan, including an example of a manufacturing enterprise using Ground Granulated Blastfurnace Slag (GGBS) as a cementitious material. Features of GGBS from an environmental viewpoint - especially concerning CO 2 emission together with the necessity of international co-operation to promote slag utilization is also discussed in the Report.
