EU-China Relations

2018
With the U.S. increasingly isolating itself on the world stage and less willing to provide leadership on many transnational issues (such as global warming), China has somewhat filled the void and aimed to be that missing leader. Simultaneously, the U.S. has somewhat disengaged with their traditional European allies, placing less emphasis on NATO or the negotiation of TTIP. Due to this growing American isolationism, new possibilities for EU-China cooperation have emerged. This paper will look at the development of the relationship between the European Union and China in the past and present, as well as consider possibilities for the future.
