Neoplasias affecting the third eyelid are rare in dogs and cats. A case of squamous cell carcinoma of the third eyelid in a dog is reported. A 9-year-old, female, English Cocker Spaniel dog, was presented to the Veterinary Ophthalmology Section of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. The dog had a 2-year history of a red mass growing in the right eye. Ophthalmic examination revealed vascularization and pigmentation of the cornea and a mass in the third eyelid at the right eye. The third eyelid was excised. Squamous cell carcinoma was diagnosed on the basis of results of histopathologic examination. No recurrence of the mass was evident within a period of 6 months after the treatment. Surgical excision was effective to treat of squamous cell carcinoma of the third eyelid in a dog.
