The Role of Asian Americans in Ending Hepatitis B

In 2007, Asian American community groups began organizing around the goal of ending hepatitis B. and liver cancer are the greatest health disparities for Asians and Pacific Islanders. The movement, called Hep B Free, has become, one of the largest organizing successes among Asian and Pacific Islanders in America. In five years, 15 replication sites were begun across the country and viral hepatitis disease prevention had become part of national U.S. health policy. This chapter looks at the organizing principles and characteristics around the Hep B Free movement that are unique to the Asian American community.
