Wireless: Can Regulatory "Business as Usual" Continue?

The total number of wireless minutes likely will overtake the total number of wired telephone minutes in the United States. Wireless phones have gained new prominence as a result of the critical role they played in reestablishing communications on September 11, 2001, and have moved to the forefront of national emergency planning, national security, and priority access regimes. The financial condition of the wireless industry does not reflect the 137.5 million subscribers in the United States who use their cell phones and other wireless devices daily. 2 Billions in equity from investors and in debt funded by Wall Street have been spent to build out wireless networks and to provide service.
