Dynamic Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Pelvic Floor Pathologies
2021
Pelvic floor dysfunction encompasses multiple clinical conditions presenting with a wide range of symptoms. Clinical examination alone may be challenging especially in cases with complex involvement of more than one pelvic floor compartment. By providing morphologic and functional information on pelvic floor structures and pathologies, MRI has tremendous potential as a tool for attempts to understand the complex pathophysiology of the large number of disorders of the pelvic floor. Findings reported at dynamic MRI of the pelvic floor are valuable for selecting patients who are candidates for surgical treatment and for choosing the appropriate surgery. This chapter provides an overview of the most common pelvic floor disorders and their morphologic and functional findings on dynamic pelvic floor MRI.
