Purification and characterisation of a major allergen of Alternaria alternata

Abstract A major allergen of Alternaria (Alt a Bd29K) was identified by SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting. It was purified by gel-permeation and ion-exchange HPLC. The apparent molecular mass was 29,000, with a cysteine linked sub-unit of 15,000 M r . The apparent isoelectric point was 4.2. It was found to be a constituent of the Alt I allergen group.
