Strides of Regional Rural Banks in India in Post Consolidated Period: An Analytical Study

2015
The institution of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) were set up as state-sponsored, regionally based and rural oriented institutions through the promulgation of RRB Act of 1976. RRBs were conceived as hybrid micro banking institutions to cater to the needs of the small and marginal farmers, agricultural labourers, artisans, small entrepreneurs and other weaker sections of population for development of agriculture, trade, commerce and industry. Presently RRBs are achieving their social objective of providing credit to the rural masses but they are also facing the problems of overdue, recovery, nonperforming assets. An attempt has been made in this study to analyze the current performance of RRBs based on some certain parameters like branch expansion, deposits, accumulated losses, investments and trends of profit.
