Utility Perspective on Applying Harmonic Limits for Customers

2006
IEEE 519 is the standard most often referenced in utility limits for harmonic voltage distortion and limits for customer harmonic generation. However, there are often ambiguities in applying the standard and it is difficult to apply for small customers that can have an important impact on the overall system harmonic distortion levels. This summary paper describes some of the important issues that need to be addressed in the development of guidelines for distribution system harmonic levels and provides an example of applying the IEEE 519 harmonic limits for an industrial customer
