A method of transmitting data at high data rates on at least one coaxial transmission line (X; 7, 7a) having the following features: - the data transmission on the at least one coaxial transmission line (X; 7, 7a) is carried out in at least one transmission direction or two opposing directions of transmission by means of one or several modulated high-frequency carrier, - which are present in a base band (BB) or intermediate frequency band (ZF) data to be transmitted and by means of a frequency conversion means (39; 39a, 39b) in a transmission frequency band (TF) for transmission on the at least a coaxial transmission line (X; 7, 7a) is reacted in at least one direction of transmission, - the transmission frequency band on the at least one coaxial transmission line is located above the cutoff frequency for this coaxial transmission line (X; 7, 7a), wherein the cutoff frequency for the coaxial transmission line (X; 7, 7a) is the frequency below which exclusively TEM modes on the coaxial transmission line (X; 7, 7a) are capable of propagation, - the transmission method uses a useful bandwidth of more than 200MHz, - the frequency-conversion means (39; 39a, 39b) operates with a modulation efficiency is greater than 1 bit / Hz.
