Environmental Perceptions of Surface Water Quality in Chiapas's Río Fogótico Micro Watershed

2010
This article examines perceptions of river and stream water quality in the Fogotico micro watershed, from the perspective of water users and representatives of political and institutional groups. The area is in the hydrographic network of the San Cristobal watershed, in the xI Frontera Sur hydrological and administrative region and in the south-southeastern hydrological meso-region. It is located in north-central Chiapas, in a socioeconomic region known as the Altos de Chiapas. The research revealed that perceptions are heterogeneous in most cases, both between groups and within them. It also revealed the different aspects of the problematic in terms of the problems and solutions, with a prevalence of a critical attitude toward the actions of others. Added to that, the research identified aspects that influence perceptions, such as the worldview and the location of the micro watershed.
